Sherri Williams is PhD candidate at Syracuse University in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications where she studies media diversity, social media, social TV and how people of color use social media and how they are represented on social networks. She appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live show to discuss social media images of Rachel Jeantel after Jeantel testified in the George Zimmerman trial. USA Today has also interviewed Williams for her social media knowledge. Williams has presented her media research at conferences across the globe including in Spain and Costa Rica. She also presented her work on how black audiences' social TV habits are changing television at SXSW Interactive in 2014. She has taught journalism writing, media diversity and women's studies classes at Syracuse. Before entering academia Williams was a print journalist for a decade including at The Associated Press. Williams also traveled to South Africa and Cuba for journalism fellowships.
