Nicholas Christie
Arup
Sr Engineer
Nicholas has always had a passion for making things. As a twelve year old he made an electric guitar (though he could never play it) and in high school took up sewing and then built a sports car from scratch. He’s dabbled in jewelry making, wood carving and joinery and these days mostly does sewing projects, making clothes and costumes for himself and others. And now, of course, there’s Dr. Brainlove. Nicholas studied engineering, economics and management at the University of Oxford, messed around as a management consultant for a bit, and now works as a building engineer, joyfully inhabiting the no-man’s-land between structural and mechanical engineering in Arup’s Advanced Technology+Research group. Nicholas loves drawing on the theoretical leanings of design engineers and the practical figuring out approach of ‘makers’. He feels that having these very different ways of viewing things helps him to find the optimally effective approach to most problems in the realm of physical creation.
