Do you remember Geocities? I do. It's where it all started for me. Using Microsoft FrontPage and a lot of help from my friend William, I launched my first website in 1996. It was an ode to the artists I loved at the time: Fun Lovin' Criminals (who now?). My visual design skills were -- let's say -- not that evolved. I remember the background had the classic Wu Tang "W" as tiles, your quintessential "Under Construction" animated GIFs all over the place and my logotype with an enormous Photoshop lens flare. I thought it was beautiful and I remember the fascination I had when my site first launched. Today, more than 18 years later, I am still a designer, and still as fascinated by the web, albeit with a bit more design sense (I've dropped the lens flare). Professionally, I have worked with the web for almost a decade, and more than 5 years with user experience at agencies in London, New York and Stockholm. I believe that the most important aspect of design is empathy.
