Amy Austin, is the Publisher of Washington City Paper, an influential and award-winning alternative news media company in Washington DC. Austin serves on the board as vice-president of the independent media organization, AAN. In concert with Washington City Paper, she produces Crafty Bastard Arts and Crafts Festival a nationally recognized festival of handmade crafts drawing as many as 15,000 people to shop for one-of-a-kind items from 130 vendors. She is Chairman Emeritus for The Theatre Lab, helping to build it into the largest school in Washington DC for the training and teaching of Theatrical Arts to professionals, students, and under-served communities. She has also served on the development committee for the Capital City Public Charter School which President Obama called "an example of how all our schools should be.” She is married to Deirdre Joy, a scientist for NIH. They live in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in DC with their three children.
