McDonald’s Pitch Session: Restaurant Experience
The McDonald’s Digital Mission
The intersection of convenience, fun and value has historically been an integral part of the McDonald’s DNA. Today, we are on the move to transform how we bring these pillars to life through the growth of technologies such as mobile, connected devices, digital media and the Internet of Things. McDonald’s is hosting three sessions (http://sxsw.is/1AjdcOK) that will give startups the opportunity to pitch their innovations, particularly as they relate to the customer experience of one of the world’s largest and most frequented businesses, serving more than 69 million customers in more than 100 countries each day.
What We Are Looking For
We believe the restaurant experience is ready for a change. Customers deserve more. Technology can enable more. And McDonald’s is aiming to turn the restaurant experience on its head. This is not about tweeting, ordering online or Wi-Fi connectivity. This is about truly reinventing the traditional dining experience. We are talking about multiple screens, proximity technology, personalization and even smart packaging.
What if your whole experience with McDonald’s was customized just for you? Imagine walking into the restaurant, the crew immediately recognizing who you are, knowing your favorite order and charging your account – without needing to open your wallet. And how about the dining area? We want to
harness proximity technology, multiple screens and mobile devices to make the restaurant of the future a reality.
While it’s still early in the transformation for the restaurant of the future, McDonald’s is charging ahead, working with new ideas and technologies to enhance the customer experience in restaurants. Be part of this transformation.
If you are interested in applying, please submit your pitch to sxsw.startups@us.mcd.com by 8 pm ET on Monday, March 9. We will notify three session finalists on March 12 and give them 15 minutes to pitch their
innovation to a panel of industry leaders and McDonald’s digital executives the following day.

Barracuda Bowl: Digital Health Startup Pitch
Following the success of 2013's Founder's Stories, the format of this session is evolving into more of a "shark tank" style pitch fest for health tech startups. The "Barracuda Bowl" puts the spotlight on the founders of three health tech startups, who will each have five minutes to pitch their startup to an esteemed panel of "barracudas" – veteran investors, entrepreneurs, and judges.
After providing an overview of their business, the startup founders will be immersed into the Barracuda Bowl where the panel of judges will interrogate them and poke holes in their business plans. After all three founders have had their fifteen minutes in the bowl, they will assemble on stage, where the audience will have an opportunity to be the barracudas and unleash their questions on them. At the end of the session, the barracuda panel will decide which founder won the battle of the barracuda bowl and which ones got chewed to pieces.

McDonald’s Pitch Session: Content Creation
The McDonald’s Digital Mission
The intersection of convenience, fun and value has historically been an integral part of the McDonald’s DNA.
What We Are Looking For
We believe the content landscape has been undergoing tremendous change over the past several years. Consumers have an incredible breadth and depth of content choices across all screens, and are increasingly choosing to engage with authentic content, curate content to their personal networks and
create content at unprecedented volumes.
To that end, we believe to be truly customer-centric, brands of the future need new content development models and partners. Brands have to co-create content with communities, curate daily content to stay relevant, and create content with social in mind. How can brands tap into new content partners
and models that can tackle these objectives?
In this session, we’ll give the creative minds of tomorrow an opportunity to speak with us about how they can push this cause forward in the retail and restaurant industries.
If you are interested in applying, please submit your pitch to sxsw.startups@us.mcd.com by 8 pm ET on Monday, March 9. We will notify three session finalists on March 12 and give them 15 minutes to pitch their

McDonald’s Pitch Session: Transportation and Delivery
What We Are Looking For
How we physically get from point A to point B is rapidly evolving, and companies must evolve to not only meet customers on their journey, but to anticipate the way they will travel in the future. Connected technology is changing transportation models and the way we interact with our cars. As a result, our existing idea of door-to-door delivery and drive-thru will soon be obsolete.
Imagine a world where drones could deliver you food while you’re driving down the highway. Seems crazy now, but technology is increasingly revolutionizing our everyday lives. As the world’s leading global food
service retailer, McDonald’s global reach and scale drives industries beyond just food, including transportation, delivery and logistics models.
This session will give three start-ups focused on mobile, transportation and delivery an opportunity to pitch their innovation to a panel of judges.

Rise of the Rest Pitch Competition
In 2014, Steve Case launched the Rise of the Rest Road Trip to nine cities. Along the way, Steve and the team heard dozens of pitches, met hundreds of entrepreneurs and hosted pitch competitions in each city. This year, we’re hitting the road again to showcase entrepreneurship in ten more cities. But first, we're doubling down on the great companies we've already met from five of the cities we visited – Madison, Minneapolis, Des Moines, Kansas City and St. Louis – by inviting them to pitch at SXSW.
Each company will have five minutes to pitch, followed by three minutes of Q&A with all-star judges including Sallie Krawcheck (Chair, Ellevate Network), Troy Carter (Founder and CEO of the Atom Factory), and Steve Case (Chairman and CEO of Revolution). The judges will determine the winning startup and offer an additional $150,000 investment courtesy of Steve. The stakes are high and the cause is good so come cheer on your favorite team and accelerate the Rise of the Rest. Presented by Revolution.

KITE Presents Startups Pitch for Brand Partnerships
Just how different is a startup pitch for brand partnership than the ones they make to the press or investors? These meetings almost always take place behind closed doors with a company’s most senior executives, so we’re bringing it onto the Startup Village stage. This is your chance to watch startup presentations to a panel of brand decision-makers and corporate innovation experts. The audience will witness the judges’ open deliberation as they share their impressions of the pitches and how they align with strategic marketing brief. One winner will be crowned and will have a shot at a paid pilot with a major marketer.
Presented by KITE.

Austin’s biotech sector is booming, and with the Dell Medical School slated to open in 2016, it will only continue to grow. Five of Austin’s hottest biotech startups will share their groundbreaking technologies and insight into the local community. Prior to SXSW, local biotech startups will compete through a series of pitch elimination rounds for the opportunity to present their company and product at this SXSW Interactive Festival. We are pleased to announce that the winning startups that will be presenting at SXSW are TeVido BioDevices, Celling Biosciences, AptamiR, Spot On Sciences, and ENTVantage Diagnostics.
