Experiments in Action: TEDx Meet Up
While we all work with the same tools and strive to meet the same expectations, no two TEDx events are the same. Thousands of take place all around the world every year and each brings a new idea or twist --- from hosting at low caste school in India, building out a highly interactive intellectual Oz, or inviting the top chefs to create low impact bento box meals, each event confidently pushes the envelope to foster engagement, connection and adoption of provocative new ideas.
As the saying goes, "give me the freedom of a tightly defined strategy". What is it about constraints that unlocks new possibilities?
How does this community share, build and create confidence for new?
How is courage fostered?

Female Entrepreneurs Meet Up
Female entrepreneurs are making waves on the startup scene and are becoming an increasing force to be reckoned with at SXSW, but it goes without saying that there are still miles to go in addressing the global gender gap. Women experience a unique set of challenges on their path to success, so the idea behind this meet-up is that by bringing together some of today’s leading influencers, innovators, and aspiring entrepreneurs, our ability to create a positive impact on female entrepreneurship worldwide will be amplified. It’s an opportunity to meet and develop valuable business connections, while also learning about various ways you can support other women in business, ranging from mentoring to monetary investments or donations to simply making helpful introductions. Come enjoy drinks, apps, and other goodies (all from female vendors) while networking with a purpose, and leave inspired with a pledge to how you plan to pay it forward, helping another women business owner to advance.

Food and Tech Meet Up
Technology continues to have a profound effect on how and what we eat. In the 365 days since last year's meetup alone, much has happened in the Food + Tech world: 3D printing, crowdsourcing restaurants, robot line cooks, GMOs, and a plethora of new apps. The intersection of Food and Technology has become more complex than posting reviews, snapping food porn and blogging.
At this Food+Tech meetup, we'll be discussing
Food and nutritional as social issues, and how technology is affecting them
Sustainability and technology
Trail-blazers and Innovations in the food industry
We'll also have time for open discussion of topics brought up by the group
And of course some excellent networking, so come prepared to hype your project or favorite food-tech app/idea/innovation, make some new connections and catch up with everyone from past SXSWi Food + Tech meetups.

- How to find and organize helpers?

Whittle the Idea: A Creative Meet Up
Talented whittlers will tell you that they are able to see a design "hidden" in a block of wood; that all they're doing is revealing the true form locked within. Each time you set out to find the "big idea," how do you start? With a big blank page (or dry-erase board). This is your block of wood. Each time a word is written on that page, it's like a strike to your block that reveals more and more of the creative insight you seek. You whittle until you refine that bad boy into an efficient and powerful message. No matter what facet of media you work in, come meet up with like-minded creative professionals who delight in the process of revealing big ideas with creative whittling.

Working Moms Meet Up
No single event in a woman’s life asks more questions of her career than adding a baby to the family. Suddenly, you’re faced with time constraints to accommodate drop-off and pick-up and flipping a coin with your partner to see who will stay home with the sick child.
We’re asked to LEAN IN when a sleepless night with a crying child makes you want to wave the white flag. Every day, we’re making important decisions at our jobs, and yet, the little logistical things like getting everyone out the door seem to continually stump us.
Let’s meet up, swap tips on how to survive as a working mom and support each other in this crazy journey. Whether it’s a helpful app or connecting with other moms through a forum, we all need ways to make it to bedtime.
Oh, and there will be an old breast pump that we can take turns smashing (then recycling the parts). Cuz we’ve all thought about it.

Meet Up: It Takes All Kinds to Work in Advertising
An agency's best talent doesn't have to come straight out of portfolio school. What leads people to work in advertising or marketing? How does a diverse professional background lend itself to intriguing work? What's it like to start working in a marketing/advertising agency after life on the client side, running a small business, or working in the nonprofit sector?
This is a meet-up for folks from "agency life" who led previous lives in other industries, to discuss creativity as vocation and compulsion. Especially inclusive of those new to the ad world whose egos have not yet been extensively massaged.

Marketing Technologist Meet Up
A new class of marketers are emerging that understand the future belongs to those who can merge marketing and technology into something new. Marketing technologists are those folks who know that every piece of a campaign can be measured, analyzed and improved upon. And that once that's done, they'll measure, analyze, and improve upon it again. Because as good as the last campaign was, there's always a better one right around the corner.
As more marketing departments gain their own technology budgets, marketing technologists that can manage and wrangle different systems into one cohesive system that does everything you want are invaluable. Equal parts copywriter, developer, data scientist, and strategist, marketing technologists are tasked with merging the messaging with the machinery and using it all to move the needle. Come meet with others who share your challenges and share war stories, campaign ideas, big wins, and technology recommendations.

We Are Not Robots: A CSR Meet Up
According to the Gini Coefficient, a measurement of income inequality, the wealth disparity in San Francisco is greater than that in Rwanda. With its tech industry contributing to the fastest growing income gap in the nation, San Francisco is a flash point of the division between rich and poor. The tech backlash, the pointing fingers solely at tech for social ailes, has become a rallying point for many people.
In response to the anger and frustration on both sides regarding this inequity, corporate social responsibility can be seen as a necessity. Yet, in a for-profit company whose primary goal is the bottom line, developing a strong Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan can be a challenge. This session will focus on the balancing act that is CSR. This Meet Up will explore the relationship of CSR within a company as well as specific issues regarding the tech backlash and the need for CSR in tech companies.

UX and Content Strategy Mindshare Meet Up
Every day, more and more companies acknowledge that user experience and content strategy are essential pieces of a successful project puzzle. However, questions still remain about how they understand these disciplines or establish processes in order to support them.
How user experience and content strategy come to life varies from company to company. Some agencies lump the two together and others give both free reign as independent departments. Which of these approaches works best is up for debate, and involves factors dependent on agency structure and client needs. And how all this value is communicated to clients and within an agency is an entirely different story.
This meetup is for UX, UI, IA, strategy and content folks to get together and talk about what works and what doesn’t. Topics for discussion can range from how to effectively get into a process, support client needs and advocate for value.

#SXsingle Meet Up
#SXsingle, it's not just a hashtag, it's a lifestyle.
Over the years, the term "what happens at South By, stays at South By" has become part of the vernacular for veteran attendees. In some instances, this means exactly as it sounds. However, many matches have been made at SXSW, including marriages, babies, long term relationships, and of course numerous hook ups.
Come join other #SXsingle(s) or those who once were and want to relive their glory days at SXSW! We'll imbibe complimentary adult beverages (for those 21 and up!), trade stories, share in activities, laughs and maybe even some digits!

IT Pros Take a Seat at the Table Meet Up
Two-thirds of senior IT professionals are planning on making a career move in the next two years. Sound familiar?
High-level IT pros today are craving more learning opportunities in their careers, and aren’t afraid to leave their current company to find them. As the IT industry evolves, so does the need for learning opportunities on an individual level. Companies today spend thousands of dollars on contracts and research reports that deliver little more than vendor- biased reports that may not address current, individual IT priorities. It’s time to change that.
We'll dive into how IT pros can help shift company priorities to better support the stuff that matters: leadership skills development and real-world pressing IT concerns. Attendees will walk away with a report that gives an inside look at what senior IT pros are experiencing in their careers, specific questions IT practitioners need to ask during a job interview and practical advice gathered from IT pros just like you.

Meet Up: Unlock Your Creative Potential With JUJU
In an age of decreased funding for the arts and increased focus on science and technology, creative expression has become threatened as a cultural value. However, emerging mobile technology has provided sophisticated platforms for users to consume, create and share art, putting creativity back at our fingertips. Although it often goes unrecognized, we believe all people are inherently creative. This meetup will include an informal conversation about the importance of bringing art into our daily lives, as well as an opportunity to join a hands-on art making session using tablets and mobile phones.

Just because you have a bundle of joy doesn't mean you have to put your career on hold, and at this meetup you'll get tips, tricks, and hard fought strategies from fellow tech parents on how they've kept baby happily in a corner, at least long enough for a compile.

Digital and Social Government Meet up
A new generation of government leaders is using digital platforms to engage constituents, empower communities, drive innovation, and deliver on their missions. Digital solutions have become a powerful medium to deliver messages. More importantly, governments can now powerfully listen to, and interact with, constituents – in a more time-effective manner than ever before. These transformative governments are enabling citizens to engage in meaningful ways with leaders, to work together to solve many of the community’s problems themselves, and to empower citizens and reduce stress on their already budget-constrained and resource limited operating environment. In this Meetup, come engage in an open dialogue on the innovative approaches that governments are taking to deliver services and solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. Share your own ideas, innovations and discuss how to overcome barriers to implementing digital solutions in the public sector.

Youth Sports Marketing Meet Up
#SXkidsport

The Moving Screen.

That used to be just a basketball term. Now, it’s symbolic of multi-screens moving kids’ attention from gyms, pools and grass fields.

Marketing to families to get kids involved in youth sports is exciting, challenging, frustrating and fulfilling. It’s part art & part science and a different ball game than selling widgets. It’s finding the balance of motivating, inspiring and seeking W&L (wins & losses) as much as P&L (profit and loss).

Come join other youth sports marketers, dreamers and believers who share the passion of getting kids in the game.

Accessibility is one of the key ingredients to any good product design by helping create a more intimate relationship with how customers interact with a product or service. Join Frances West, IBM Chief Accessibility Officer, to share ideas, best practices, and raise awareness about inclusive design. With more than 1 billion people with disabilities worldwide, in addition to the aging population, novice technology users, and people with language, learning and literacy challenges, the demand for accessibility is a mainstream requirement for governments and businesses worldwide. And, the success of mobile, social, smart TVs, wearable devices and cognitive technologies will depend on the integration of adaptive, intuitive and accessible technology. How to Find Your Happy Place Meet Up
Work. Everyone has to do it. Well, almost everyone. Gajillionaires don’t need to so this session is not for any gajillionaires. But work is a necessity for the rest of us working stiffs. Focus too little on it and you are in an endless cycle of living paycheck to paycheck. Focus too much on it and you turn into a misanthropic jerk no matter what your rank is on the corporate ladder. Is there a way to stay happy while still hating that you have to work? Yes. Is it a myth that you have to love what you do in order to be happy at work? Yes. Can you be a grumpy cat and still be happy? Definitely, yes. This session is about finding that balance between work and happiness. It does exist. Sometimes they're perfectly aligned and more often than not you may have to happily embrace unhappiness to get there. Happiness is a spectrum. This meetup will use shared stories to help you find your place on that spectrum, manage misery with "little absurdities" and use tools to shift to a new happy place.

The Kickass Project Management Meet Up
Picture it. Austin. March 2011.
A lonely young project manager from a UX consulting firm wanders aimlessly among a sea of developers and designers at SXSW, searching desperately for some brethren to call her own. After having several devs see the words “Project Manager” on her badge and turn away with polite disinterest, she breaks down crying on the trade show floor. “Where are my people?” she screams. Her fist raised, hope lost.
End scene.
Kickass PM is an Austin-based meetup for project managers, product owners and producers in the digital space. Kickass PM offers a sense of community for Digital PMs where you can kick back, talk shop, and learn about what’s trending in the PM world.
I'd like to bring that same spirit of generosity where PMs from around the world can get together and share their struggles and successes managing deadlines, budgets, clients, risks, and (above all) teams.

We Are Creative Professionals Meet Up
Creative is a broad term to describe the output of specialized individuals who bring ideas to life in a variety of different formats. We are the purveyors of snappy copy and innovative web design. The marketing professionals proficient in social media and web analytics. The designers with extensive digital expertise and proven track records. We are the simplified answers in an outsourced world and the hired guns that help businesses revitalize their brands, but how do we survive as a creative?
Do we specialize or generalize? Is it in our best creative — yet also financial — interest to work for a Fortune 500, run our own freelance firm, or contract out all gigs via agency? How do we nurture our creative talents while also thriving financially?
This Meet Up will provide a medium to meet new friends, exchange ideas, network, brainstorm, collaborate, and ideation for future business opportunities.

The Debunking Last-Click (Google Agrees) Meet Up
Last-click attribution is universally derided and yet it remains a dominant model. Marketers have been blinded by “last-click attribution,” giving most, or all the credit, to the last marketing touch-point e.g. Google. Time to dissect and debunk “last-click attribution" once and for all because even the biggest beneficiary of last-click understands it’s an imperfect science. As Google puts it, “When a customer buys or converts on your site, most conversion tracking tools credit the most recent link or ad clicked. In reality though, customers research, compare and make purchase decisions via multiple touch points across multiple channels. So marketers that measure return solely on the last channel that a customer touches before conversion are getting an incomplete picture, and potentially missing out on important opportunities to reach their customers.”

Fashion Ecommerce Meet Up: Conversion vs Branding?
In fashion, perhaps more than anywhere else, branding is everything. Many brands rely on staying enigmatic, using aspirational photography and inspired physical stores to differentiate.
At the same time, success in e-commerce is determined by laws of conversion, use of conventions and by enabling choice. This is why all profitable online fashion stores look more and more the same. Do you recognize this paradox? Learn how others overcome it.

Asian Connection SXSW Meet Up
Looking to expand across Asia? Asia is a highly fragmented region – each country itself can contain multiple languages and cultures. How to Find Success from Failure Meet up
I'm a life long banker. Grew up in a small town, with small town mentality. Was told I needed to go to college and get a good job. After years of trying to make it in the corporate world... and did so, I tried to create my own company "part time" more than once and failed. Creating part time is like trying to play college ball and never playing past little league football. This panel is for all those part time creators and innovators and how NOT to do things. I finally quit and started my own company full time over two years ago and my life is forever changed. This is NOT the how to guide, but the HOW NOT GUIDE... to start you start up!
