Viva Album Art!
Pre-digital music fans recall sitting on their bedroom floors and sifting through liner notes, immersing themselves in new albums.
While music consumption has advanced so much, the concept of album artwork has been left behind. We explore music through excel sheet-type players with little square album covers.
Yet, the artwork still matters to artists. Several have released "visual albums" in attempt to revive those rich experiences.
We'll discuss how musicians can use digital media to express their stories, and invite their fans to emotionally connect with their music, using the best platforms and practices that the digital world has to offer.

Digital Marketing: It's What's for Dinner
The digital marketing landscape has grown into a vast open plain of ideas, tools and social media platforms. How do you know where to start, what to do and what not to do? It's almost as confusing and convoluted as trying to decide what to eat these days.
In this panel, we'll start at the beginning and talk about how to assess what's currently going on in your own field, how to cultivate an grassroots strategy to help grow your fan base, how to navigate an ever-evolving variety of tools and services to reap the benefits of all your hard work and how to keep it organic and avoid the stuff you don't need.
Think of it as the farm-to-table approach to the marketing of your band.

Why You Matter to Brands/Why Brands Matter to You
Is a record deal still the end game for artists? Does landing “the deal” signify an artist has made it? With so many platforms to share their music with the world, are brand deals as aspirational as label deals for independent artists? Marketers are just beginning to understand the value of music for driving business. Beyond a soundtrack to an ad, the strategic use of music extends the reach of a campaign, and deepens consumer engagement. For an artist, the exposure gained by having their music score a campaign, across geographies and media channels can be the break they need to propel their careers to the next level. Join us to discuss the value of a brand deal from both perspectives.

In-Store Radio: 200M Potential Fans
Over 200 Million people hear in-store radio everyday (music at malls, shops, restaurants, hotels, etc) - that's 2/3 of the population of the US. These retail playlists reach a captive audience (no one can turn the channel) and people use apps like Shazam and Soundhound to discover new artists. We will discuss success stories, challenges, licensing/legal, programming and more about this channel which often goes neglected in a label or artists' outreach plan.

Street Team 2.0: Digital Marketing For Music
The “Street Team” model was originally developed as an affordable and highly effective bridge to a target audience that did not require the traditional outlets found in print, radio, television, and large scale distribution deals. Today, budgets are required to do more. Labels and artists must be efficient, creative and effective in leveraging technology and reaching fans. This requires labels and especially legacy artists to adapt to a start up culture where music is the driver for brand extensions and artists see themselves as brands that are constantly engaging their fans. What would take deep pockets to reach the masses, can now be done with the use of the internet and social media.
