Robots are just machines, right? Human cruelty to robots seems impossible, and yet in reality, it’s not so simple. As robots become more lifelike, the way people react to them starts to get unexpected. Studies suggest that people often feel uncomfortable when watching social robots being tortured or harmed. Why is this, and what does it say about us?
