Health Impact of Screen Time for Babies and Toddlers

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

There is a thought-provoking disconnect happening within our society today. The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued guidance stating no screen time for infants and children under age 2, while parents proudly share their iPhones and gasp in awe of their brilliance. Studies show that screen time at an early age can lead to a multitude of difficulties later in the child's life. Why are adults ignoring this guidance? What will be the implications of this screen time on our children? A child's brain develops rapidly during the first years of life. Infants form trillions of synapses in the first years of their lives which lay the foundation for future cognitive, social, emotional, language and physical capacities - it is literally use it or lose it. Screen exposure does not provide the appropriate amount of stimulation to create these synapses. Could the health issues American children are challenged with start with too much screen time?
