Economic Architecture: Mesh Network of Innovation

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The history of civilization is built upon the transport of commerce, with prosperous communities resulting at the connection points between people, knowledge, and goods. The 20th century saw the creation of expansive hub and spoke economies and sprawling mega-cities that drain wealth and resources from their surrounding areas. We propose a new model of economic architecture built on mesh networking principles to create economic network redundancy through the establishment of new trade routes between cities using technology and fiber instead of asphalt, trains, and rivers.
This talk will review the history of urban development; the impacts of startup communities, hackerspaces, makerspaces, and incubators. We will address models of financial sustainability for these organizations which are essential to the creation of a new mesh network of innovation centers in small to mid-size cities and spark a broad based and sustainable economic recovery.
