UK television broadcasters including the BBC, ITV and Sky have instant access to nearly all of the world’s music under their blanket agreements with music collecting societies. To others, blanket licenses represent a loss of control and a missed opportunity to command individual synch fees. While blanket licenses in the UK generate significant revenue for music creators, they also generate confusion and debate.
