How Big Data Can Transform Poverty Policy

Despite 50 years of well-intentioned policies, poverty in America remains stubbornly high and income mobility is at its lowest in decades. But transformation is on the horizon. By increasing their reliance on big data and analytics, communities, states, and even the federal government are shifting toward results-oriented programs, boosting effectiveness and accountability across program areas.
This new interest in evidence-based initiatives is bringing hope to many communities, changing the lives of America's homeless, single mothers, convicted felons, and underprivileged children. However, more needs to be done. In this panel, Congressman John Delaney (D, MD) will be joined by top nonprofit experts to discuss the successes of data-driven programs, the barriers to their expansion, and the ways in which the tech community can marshall its resources to tackle one of the greatest public policy challenges facing America today.
