Sonido San Francisco

Sonido San Francisco (Sound San Francisco) is a mix of opposites, the sound of a small latin town invading the big city, the guacharaca and the güiro sharing frequencies with the synthesizer, the electricity of the bass following the precise tempo of a computer, tropical rythms collaborating with the the tendencies of the digital world, electronic music surrendering to the organic musical tradition of Latin America.

The band formed in 2019, takes it’s name from the saint that accompanies a small decadent town between Mexico City and Toluca City, San Francisco de Asís, Xonacatlán. It is also where the band’s headquarters is located and where part of the inspiration is taken from. This "mexiquense" quartet has earned it's place as one of the most important new tropical bands in their country, taking part in big festivals such as Vive Latino (three years in a row), 212RMX, Festival Quimera, Festival de la Juventud Sinaloa, La Yoshokura, Indy Fest Campeche, etc. And touring most of Mexico in the last four years.

Internationally they've been part of SXSW twice (2012, 2013) and are planning a bigger tour in 2015 throughout the US that will take them to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more. They also toured Japan, Colombia and Argentina in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and will be touring Europe between june and july 2015.

Releases: • Independencia Sessions (EP/2010) - Independent • Sentimiento Electrónico (LP/2014) - Discos Intolerancia • Toluca Tropikal (Flexisingle/2014) - Revista Marvin

They were recently invited to be part of the album "Sin Mucho Sentido" (released by Ponk Records in NY), a tribute to The Talking Heads, for which they were comissioned to reversion the eighties hit song: Burning Down the House.

We can expect a lot more from the creators of synthcumbia, who now are going through a metamorphosis to become La Sonora San Francisco, a technified traditional cumbia orchestra that will continue with the blending of electronica and folklore, and releasing new music in 2015.
