Boomerang

Boomerang Uruguay

After a few years in the underground scene Boomerang caught the attention of Koala records, Uruguay’s pioneer indie label at the time, with a sharp style and clean esthetics. The band premiered on the radio in 2005 with “Seducime” and “Mal vado”, first two singles from Premiere, the band’s debut album. The band got its name from the song Baby Boomerang (T-Rex). The band liked the idea that the name worked in Spanish as well as in English and what started as a joke soon became the bands official name.

Over the course of a decade the band formed by Gonzalo Zipitría, Pablo Mendoza, Nicolás Rodriguez, Luis Angelero, Bruno Tortorella y Federico Eguren has released 3 studio albums and 1 live DVD+CD, has released a number of singles and shows, toured Uruguay and Argentina. Boomerang has released all their records in Uruguay and Complicado the band’s latest album was released in Mexico by indie label Tanuro Pro. In October 2014, the band will release Engañamundos Boomerang’s fourth studio album. Recorded at Juno Studios (Argentina) with producer Gustavo Iglesias (Babasonicos).

HISTORY

2004 – First EP - First single released Ahora - koala Records. In May 2005 the band releases Premiere Koala Records. The album was recorded at El Santito Studios in Argentina. Martín Menzel, it was produced by Mario Siperman and Daniel Lozano both from Argentina’s super band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

A fine mix of pop rock with straight up rock and roll, with catchy tunes Premiered showed a strong influence from early 90s Britpop bands and what was known as the New Argentine rock also from the early 90s. The album had very positive reviews and the singles are still played on the radio today.

The highlight of 2005 peaked with the band’s participation in Pilsen Rock a festival that gathered closet o 80,000 fans. They also opened for Uruguay’s Graffiti Music Awards and toured the country alongside local bands such as Sordromo, Buitres, etc.

2009 Boomerang releases “Complicado” with local label Contrapedal. The album was recorded at mythical “Del Cielito” Studios in Bs.As. The album was produced by indie icon “Manza” Esaín

In this album the sound, the esthetics and poetry find new directions. It’s an album that reflects the passage of time, the challenges of being in a rock band. Recorded entirely live this album has reminisces of mid 60s and 70s British but also American rock sound and folk music.

The band called photographer Pedro Luque and film director Guillermo Carbonell (Murdoc Films Uruguay) to shoot the video for Días de Gloria, the album’s first single. The video was shot entirely on 35mm. Complicado was released simultaneously in México and Uruguay.

In 2012 the band presented the show Zavala Muníz Un, dos, tres, va at Uruguay’s historical Teatro Solis. The show was filmed with 6 HD cameras and audio recorded for what became the bands first live DVD+CD released by Bizarro Records, Uruguay’s largest and most important label. A journey through the history of the band kicked of the show. Boomerang paid tribute to rock icons Garo Arakelián (La Trampa - Garo), Gabriel Peluffo (Estomagos - Buitres), Pedro Dalton (Buenos Muchachos) y Federico Lima (Socio - Loop Lascano) with new versions of old classics and the show came to an end with four new tracks written for the occasion.

During the course of 2013 -2014 the band worked on their latest album Engañamundos with the Argentinean market as a new objective. Recorded at Juno (Studio owned by Babasonicos, one of Argentina’s biggest and most innovative bands) with Gustavo Iglesias as producer. The album will be released on Sept 30. The band has started this new era with shows in Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Cordoba in the north of Argentina (Oct. 18-21) and is already preparing their 2015 tour after the album is released in Uruguay. Engañamundos will be released in Argentina in early 2015.
